Public Furniture / DAAP
[Serratus] is a public furniture installation designed and fabricated for DAAP at the University of Cincinnati. The installation accommodates a number of functional criteria, including multiple seating heights, table surfaces, and a display surface for digital presentation.
The form language developed out of a series of anatomical studies and intends to represent the way skin responds to bone and muscle. The supple quality of skin allows the muscle fibers to congruently expand and contract, while the rigidity of bone gives a defined contour to the body as a whole. The body’s serratus muscle exemplifies this dynamic.
